We first of all arrange a meeting with you to go over everything you need for your event. Once we have finalised this and you have accepted our estimate we both sign an agreement and we get to work on your preparations.
We are able to provide as much or as little as you need. For example we have created a venue for a wedding in a working sheep shed and we have provided just favours for another. Every wedding is bespoke because every couple is unique and require different things. Which is why we generally don’t provide packages, we are flexible and will never force our ideas on to you.
We hire everything to you and make specific items that are yours to keep; this is made clear in our estimates. We then add a charge for hours and any mileage over 30 miles.
I was used to sourcing and making props, revamping furniture, creating soft furnishings and dressing sets as well as managing the rehearsal process and performances including the sometimes nerve wracking opening nights.
I realised after helping my daughter and son-in-law with the preparations for their wedding all of these skills are transferrable to weddings and events.
Why “Make-I-do”? – At Pitlochry Festival Theatre the Stage Management team had a room fondly named the “Makey do room” where things are made from scratch or made to “do” for another show. It is a room where messy stuff happens when making props and revamping furniture. I had mentioned to my husband after leaving my career in theatre that I needed my own makey do room to continue making, revamping and crafting things. The idea of “Make-I-do” came about after combining the need for a place to work and a business that includes weddings where the words “I do” are very important. So Makey do became Make-I-do.
We are a small family run business, committed to making our clients events as perfect as possible and to be affordable. We take the stress out of your day by setting up and taking away everything we provide.
We understand that some people love to do crafts and others hate it so if you would like to be involved in some of the making for your event, I can provide design, guidance and materials for you to work along with me.
For example, I provided designs, samples and materials for one family to make their own bunting, place cards and table centre jam jars, I provided the rest of their décor and because we had a mood board to work from, everything matched in perfectly.
Another would be for a themed Wild West party, where the client had all the ideas and not enough time to do it all herself, so we took some of the workload from her and worked with her to make the village hall into a Wild West saloon. We made and painted things together in my “Makeydo” room!
So if you are hands on we can assist and guide you, if you are not then we can do as much for you as you need.
Whatever your party, be it a wedding, a birthday or any other celebration, we can help.
